Police have identified the female found on the shoulder of Aversboro Rd. as 18 year old Mayela Orduna of Red Oak, TX. According to hospital officials she was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m. on 2/17/09 . She will be sent to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill where an autopsy will be performed.
A search warrant executed yesterday at 3200 Madison Farm Ct. Apt 102, Garner, NC is part of this investigation. According to the search warrant's affidavit for probable cause, police believe Mayela Orduna was at a party at the apartment in the early morning hours of 2/17/09. Statements made to investigators which are included in the affidavit indicate that Ms. Orduna may have jumped from a moving vehicle. After the search warrant was executed police seized marijuana and drug paraphernalia from the apartment.
The Garner Police continue to investigate this case as a suspicious death. Garner Police will consult with the Wake County District Attorney's Office for possible criminal charges in this matter.

The female is currently in critical condition. The investigation today has led us to the identity of the female and those persons with her preceding and during the incident leading to the 911 call at 3:31 a.m. We are not releasing her name pending a positive identification by her family members who are traveling here from out of state. This investigation involves both our criminal detective division as well as our crash reconstruction team, and is still an active case. We have determined the female was not the victim of a random act of violence.

On 2/17/09 at 03:31 a.m. Garner Police and EMS responded to a passing motorist's call of a female unconscious on the shoulder of Aversboro Rd. near Old Scarborough Ln. The unidentified female sustained a head injury and was transported by EMS to WakeMed Raleigh where she is in critical condition. The specific mechanism of this injury is still under investigation. Garner Police are working to identify the victim. She appears to be a Hispanic female in her late teens or early twenties. She was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. Her physical descriptors are:
- approximately 5 feet tall.
- weighs approximately 100 pounds.
- shoulder length dark brown hair.
- brown eyes.
- light brown skin tone.
- green butterfly tattoo on the right side of her stomach.
